Newspapers
Online newspaper archives have become particularly important in recent years as sources of information for family history and local and events. Some of these online archives are pay-per-view or subscription sites, however many are accessible for free via local history centres, archives and libraries. In addition these sites often offer free trial periods.

Searching the UK census, parish records, poor law records and birth, marriage and death records etc., are an ideal way to discover people of African descent living historically in the local area. Many sites are pay-per-view or charge a subscription, but the two largest sites Find My Past and Ancestry can be accessed for free on the Hull History Centre computers.
