Felix Burns was born on 15 November 1873 in Nassau, New Providence, the capital of the Bahamas. He most likely arrived in Britain during the First World War. However, there is no evidence to suggest he was working as a seaman during the conflict. By the end of 1818 Burns was residing in Oxford Street, Hull. In early January 1919, he left his home and joined the Ellerman’s Wilson Line vessel Oristano. The steam ship left Hull on 10 January 1919 for New York and returned briefly to Cardiff with trade goods before setting sail for Sandy Hook on 22 March.[1] Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine where or when Burns was discharged from this vessel. He did return to the sea in 1920 as a sailor on board the Holtby and Firmaxe. However, there no further information on his life.
