We are currently working on the story of Dennis Fyle and would love your help.

As the first Black man employed by Hull City Council, the chair for Racial Equality in the region and as one of the founders of Hull’s Afro-Caribbean Society, we know Dennis positively impacted people’s lives. Therefore, we want to write a story about him which demonstrates the difference he made in society.

If you know a story about Dennis or would like to write a few words about how he made a difference to your life, please click the contact us button below and get in touch. Your words will feature on our Dennis Fyle page which is coming soon.

My father was my mentor and teacher. He taught me morals and pride and my African heritage. He fought for people's rights and cared without judging. I love and miss you everyday Daddy. See you in heaven, I bet you have your own office up there. I am one proud daughter and you were one proud father xxx

My dad Harold E. Towers worked with Dennis at Wilberforce Museum in Hull and were great firends. My dad was a talented artist and Dennis loved my dad's paintings. Dennis did buy one or two from my dad and eventually asked if my dad would be able to paint a painting of his much loved daughter Theresa. Dennis brought my dad a photograph to work from and dad put many hours in working on the painting. It was really good and Dennis was thrilled with it. Dad said no charge as he and Dennis were friends. The painiting ended up in an exhibition in Ferens art gallery, Hull although my dad (and I think Dennis) were a little dissappointed as another friend framed the painting in a bit of a rush to make it into the exhibition in time so it wasn't shown at it's best. Both dad and Dennis are no longer with us but I like to think they are having a good old chat somewhere about their days working at the museum together.
